Color Factory is an interactive art museum where visitors are invited to experience the joy of color through hands-on installations, immersive rooms, and carefully curated moments all inspired by the city of Chicago. With locations in Houston and New York City, J.C. Anderson partnered with Color Factory to build out their third and  flagship gallery located in Chicago’s iconic Willis Tower.

Client: Color Factory

Location: 233 S. Wacker Drive, Willis Tower, Chicago, IL

Area: 24,000 sq. ft.

Construction Schedule: 16 weeks

THE

WORK

IMMERSIVE ART GALLERY

This project centered on creating a space within Willis Tower from which Color Factory and their Artists could install their scenic work for each of the galleries. In partnership with Shorecrest Project Management, Partners by Design and ESD, the scope consisted of leveling and painting the floors, new partitions, installing new mechanical, electrical, and lighting throughout, also installing millwork and steel. All in all, we built 10 different galleries that incorporated 117 different paint colors and installed a ball pit containing 200,000 balls to help this exhibit come to life.

THE

RESULT

Through rigorous pre-planning, meticulous attention to detail, and ongoing communication between artists, vendors, and subcontractors, this project was a success. Finishing on time, so the gallery could open to the public early summer 2022, Color Factory was thrilled with the results, both in construction and logistics, calling this build out “the least stressful they have ever done.”
