J.C. Anderson is pleased to announce that the firm has completed a 40,000 square foot amenity floor and lobby build-out at The Sullivan Center, 1 S. State Street in Chicago.

Formerly known as the Carson, Pirie, Scott and Company Building, 1 S. State Street is located in the heart of Chicago at the corner of East Madison Street. Part of the Loop Retail Historic District, 1 S. State Street has been used for retail purposes since 1899 and has been a Chicago Landmark since 1975.

J.C. Anderson was hired to complete a build-out to the property’s 7th floor amenities as well as the Wabash entrance lobby. Construction included the addition of a fitness center with full locker room facilities, a conference center and a bar/lounge. J.C. Anderson also refreshed the lobby with a layout and design that enhances the hospitality feel, which features marzipan metal and wood paneling in the elevator lobby.

“Working in a building that is over 100 years old presents many challenges including older materials like clay tile, wood beams and steel structural beams,” said J.C. Anderson Project Executive Joe Hynes. “That was a challenge from a design perspective for plumbing, mechanicals and electrical, but working as a team with Building Management, the Architect and Engineering firms provided excellent and constant communication and we were able to overcome those challenges.”

The construction team for J.C. Anderson was led by Hynes and Superintendent Joe Rojas. Perkins & Will provided the architectural services and JLL was the project manager for ownership.
